You get a message from an old lover...

“What’s that?”

“Nothing.”

Iris watched Jody stuff the letter in the inside pocket of his jacket.

“You look upset.”

“Don’t worry about it.”

“Come on, you’ve been on edge since… oh.” Iris looked down.

“It doesn’t have anything to do with that. At least one of us got him, right?”

Iris looked up at him, but he wouldn’t look at her.

“Hey sweetheart, I hear you got a letter.” A sharp voice interrupted them.

“What do you want, Jones?”

“Jody knows.”

Jody looked away and Iris stared at them curiously.

“Daniel’s gonna be in tomorrow. You coming to see him?”

Catalog

Iris slapped a catalog down on Jody’s desk. “It’s here,” she said meaningfully.

“What… no. Don’t make me do this.”

“You have to. I don’t have a clue.” She waved her hands at her jeans, pointing specifically to grease stains on the knees, then at the dress on the cover.

“Just because I’m…” Iris’s eyes widened at his outburst and he took a deep breath. “Iris, I don’t like dresses. You know, it doesn’t mean anything. Are you going to ask me about makeup next?”

“Makeup? Oh my god. I need makeup! Jody, you have to!”

Jody rolled his eyes.

Cold

“Are you cold?”

Iris stared anxiously at Jody before answering Perry. “No, I’m okay.”

“You’re shivering.” Perry stepped close and put his arm around her.

“Jody’s shivering too!”

“I’m fine.” Jody’s flat tone suggested otherwise. Iris stared, even after he looked away, arms crossed, shoulders turned in, his shivering obvious even in the wind.

Perry moved behind Iris and opened his jacket around her shoulders, crossing his arms in front of her. He looked at Jody. “You cold?”

Jody shook his head. “Fine.” He bounced on the balls of his feet and looked pointedly away from them. “Don’t mind me.”
